Front elevation

The project is located in Wandina, Geraldton and lead itself to becoming split level between the main residence and the garage/storage areas having being designed around an existing sloping site. Whilst the house sits up high against the eastern boundary, the remainder of the property is terraced to increase the amount functional space for indoor / outdoor living.

The owners are a retired couple who were interested in perusing an ambitious building project, challenging the local area where traditional homes where more prevalent. This was achieved by taking a contemporary approach to the project brief and drawing from inspiration the owners had found from ideas they had based on large balconies and bold solid building forms.

The exterior lower levels of the home feature dark neutral tones of face brick to contrast with the lighter tones of the second floor to break up the mass of the building. The steel framed upper storey features sustainable Ironash timber cladding throughout its ceilings to showcase a polished aesthetic from the streetscape and create a visual connection between the home and the surrounding native Australian landscaping.
